Out of home hits record Jan revenue

Out of Home media (OOH) revenue for January is at an all time high of $53.6m, an increase of 11.6 per cent from the same time last year, when it was itself a record $48.1m.

In the month roadside billboards earned $23.3m, other roadside signage came in at $14.6m, transport pulled $8.4m, while retail, lifestyle and other achieved $7.3m.

Digital OOH net media revenue now makes up 42.5 per cent of total net media revenue, up strongly from 33.9 per cent for the same period last year.

The OOH industry finished 2016 with a 15.8 per cent increase in revenue for the year, taking the net media revenue to a record high of $789.5m, up from $682.1 m in 2015.

Outdoor Media Association, CEO, Charmaine Moldrich says one of the reasons this growth is occuring is because out of home is probably traditional media channel that has not been disrupted by technology.

"Digital is able to offer things it could not before, it offers immediacy and flexibility. In the past you could print out a paper and it was there for a day, two days or a month and now you can provide content within seconds," she says.
