PCA-PIAA decision pushed back

The Packaging Council of Australia’s (PCA) extraordinary general meeting where members will vote on whether to join Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) has been pushed back to November 9.

Set to take place on October 26, PCA CEO David Carter says logistic issues forced him to reschedule the EGM for a second time after the original meeting was adjourned on April 26.

Carter adds, “We had planned it for October but that fell apart.”

On top of the meeting’s action list will be the decision on whether the PCA will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MUI) which could see it join with the PIAA.

Carter explains, “We are going to have a meeting on November 9 to discuss with members the options we have, we will talk about the opportunity to join the PIAA with the members and they will make that decision,” adding, “I do not want to pre-empt anything.”

Carter says he is on board with joining the PIAA due to significant crossover between members of both groups, “Obviously as industry consolidates, associations need to consolidate as well.”

PIAA CEO Andrew Macaulay also says he is in favour of the move, as his strategy for Printing Industries involves strengthening ties between all print sectors including mailing, labels and packaging.

The PIAA took the first step in fostering a closer relationship with the PCA in June when it allowed Carter to move into its headquarters in Sydney.

Macaulay adds, “We are encouraging the PCA to join us, we have given them an office and I have been working very closely with Carter.

“I think packaging is a sector of the industry which is important. I want to help the PCA and I look forward to having the PCA join the PIAA if that is what is decided.”
