PIAA and Action Group settle differences at meeting

The PIAA Board say they have reached an understanding with the Members Action Group after they convened a meeting yesterday at the South Sydney Graphic Arts Club. MAG representatives including Tom Eckersley flew in from around the country to attend the meeting and voice their concerns about the direction of the PIAA. Until only recently MAG had been vocal about their outrage towards the PIAA for its lack of communication and consultation with members. The PIAA has confirmed after a lengthy discussion, an agreement on the direction of the association was reached between all parties in attendance, but some key areas of concern are yet to be resolved.

Acting president Keiran May admitted certain unidentified issues had brought the Board to a low point in recent weeks. Since the start of the new year remarkable conflict within the peak industry body has seen the resignations of four board members, including two presidents, and the CEO. May assured these issues would be addressed when the Board meets next week and confirmed communication and leadership style were discussed at the meeting. “I cannot guarantee the Board will make decisions which meet everyone’s expectations on every occasion. As acting president of the association, I have committed to conduct a review in a number of key areas,” May says. “I will make myself available to meet with as many other members in the short term to canvass their views and to provide some context to decisions. “I ask those who are considering their future as a member, to pause to let the Board make the changes they need to again be satisfied with the service and the value they want from the PIAA.” Yesterday’s meeting was held in place of the SGM which was postponed for 14 days, it is understood the PIAA wanted to reach a settlement with MAG before a SGM was held. The PIAA is yet to notify members of when another will take place.
