PIAA focusing on education

The PIAA industrial relations manager Paul Mitchell met with NSW Minister for Education Rob Stokes and members of the NSW department of education discussing a wide-ranging plan promoting education and training opportunities for the printing industry.

Mitchell says, “I was impressed with the Minister’s commitment to the sector and, more broadly, his desire to encourage vocational education training at NSW Secondary Schools. It was clear that the advocacy work we have completed over the last year is starting to raise the profile of our industry in the government’s agenda.”

The range of topics discussed included promoting the printing industry to NSW secondary schools, engaging young Australians to participate in printing traineeships/apprenticeships, and a short reflection on what the printing industry may expect from the recently announced Skilling Australia Fund, announced in the May Federal Budget.

The PIAA says it looks forward to further collaboration with the Minister’s Office and the NSW Department of Education over the coming months to further promote printing training and educational opportunities in NSW and across Australia.
