PIAA reveals election timetable

The Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) Board members election is just around the corner, and now a timetable of important dates has been revealed.

The close of roll which lists the names of full and financial members of the PIAA who are eligible to vote and be nominated in the election has been finalised and delivered to the Returning Officer.

Nominations for Board positions then open on Thursday, September 1 and close on September 15.

The ballot, which will see eligible voters cast their decision on Board members will open on September 29 and close on October 27.

PIAA CEO Andrew Macaulay says this year the association is choosing to buck the tradition of an internally run election by giving full control to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

“This election process is in the hands of the AEC, we chose to do this so the process was clearly transparent,” Macaulay told Australian Printer.

“Other than preparing the electoral roll it is something the association needs to step away from, this is a matter purely for the members so it is not something I am involved in.”

Macaulay has confirmed all members of the current Board will stand for their positions in the upcoming election.

Current PIAA Board members are president Kieran May, Peter Lane as acting honorary secretary – replacing departed member Craig Pearce – treasurer Chris Segaert, Graham Jamieson, Walter Kuhn, Matt Aitken, Kellie Northwood and John Scott.

Macaulay says May was affirmed as president during a Board meeting held earlier this month.

May had been serving as acting president since February, taking over from former president Ross Black who sensationally resigned after only 16 days in the role following the resignation of David Leach during the PIAA’s most turbulent period in its history around Christmas last year.

May will remain president at least until January 1, 2017 when the newly elected Board will meet to select the new president.
