PIAA SGM vote discussed with Fair Work

Industry members and the Fair Work Commission are now discussing the legitimacy of the PIAA’s proxy voting system, according to action group member Tom Eckersley.

The Printing Industries Members Action Group challenged the proxy voting process outlined in a letter to members by president Ross Black as ‘biased, misleading, deceptive and wrong’, and contacted Fair Work to step in immediately and mediate the situation.

Tom Eckersley from Print Approach and long-time member penned the letter to Fair Work, and has confirmed he has received a response from Fair Work but is not yet disclosing the nature of the response.

Eckersley says there are ‘ongoing discussions’ between the Action Group members and Fair Work about the proxy voting and they will go through the ‘appropriate channels’ to rectify the situation.

The SGM is also still scheduled to go ahead as planned next Tuesday, February 23, says Eckersley, as no happy medium has yet been reached between the members and the PIAA.

Eckersley says in his view there are a ‘couple of anomalies’ in regards to the SGM, and there is currently no word yet on whether members unable to attend the meeting can vote ‘fairly’ and not through proxy.

ProPrint also contacted PIAA chief executive Jason Allen and president Ross Black for response, however both were unavailable for comment.
