PIAA state manager retires after 33 years

The peak industry body will lose an employee of 33 years after Queensland manager Neal McLary resigned.

McLary joined the Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) in 1980 as an industrial officer.

He progressed through the ranks to become Queensland regional manager, general manager of research & development and, finally, Queensland state manager and project manager.

He will retire on 20 December and be replaced by the state's workplace relations advisor, Robert Hall-Boman.

PIAA chief executive Bill Healey said McLary had been a dedicated servant of the association and the industry.

"I have greatly appreciated his support and advice since I took up the position as chief executive in 2011," said Healey.

"Neal has made the point to me that he considers it to have been a great honour to have served the industry for nearly all of his working life and he leaves the association with a host of happy memories."

McLary's 33-year tenure was a time of great change in the industry, added Healey.

"Throughout his career, Neal has witnessed some of the most interesting and challenging times that the industry and association have confronted, ranging from the industrial turmoil of the 'hours campaigns' in the early eighties to the boom times for the industry in the early nineties," he said.

"Neal tells me he is looking forward to embracing new, and as yet unidentified, challenges and I’m sure members will join me and the board in wishing him all the best in his retirement."
