PICA Victoria chair calls for regular review of awards

Trevor Hone, the chairman of the state’s Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards (PICA), told ProPrint that the difficult economic environment made it vital to get the maximum benefit from awards.

“We’re constantly being asked to review the categories and we have a review meeting every year that we do in conjunction with the National Print Awards,” he said.

The Victorian PICAs will be held at Sofitel Melbourne on 9 November with entries due by 22 August. Winners will gain automatic entry into the National Print Awards.

The PICAs will feature two new finishing categories and the new Future Leader Award.

Hone, who is also the owner of multi-state trade embellishment firm Avon Graphics, said the finishing categories had been added at the request of the Australian Print Finishers Association.

They cover folded brochures, books, boxes, presentation folders and other specialty products.

The Future Leader Award, sponsored by Media Super, is for “exceptional young employees who are making a contribution far beyond what would be expected”, said Hone.
