Neal McLary, Printing Industries Queensland general manager says that notwithstanding a slight fall in the number of entries, competition was fierce across all categories with the digital categories particularly well contested.
He says, “All in all, it was a grand finale to the national PICA season and we are looking forward to some tough competition for the National Print Awards.”
Tom Lusch, director of Platypus Graphics told Australian Printer that traditionally his company had done well in the PICAs but added this year it was a pleasant surprise to take home more gold than expected.
Lusch says, “The awards are great recognition for our company particularly because 65 per cent of our business is packaging so most of the awards came from the other 35 per cent of our business. It proves we have managed to keep our quality high in the commercial side of our business.”
Master of ceremonies Bruce Irwin guided a very spirited and quintessential Queensland audience through the gallery of winners, comedian Fiona O’Loughlin wooed the audience with her homespun style of humour and well known band Boogie Knights rounded off the evening with a great performance.
