PMP closes Wacol Print

PMP has closed its Wacol Print facility in Brisbane, and 76 redundancies have followed.

It is the second major closure following the completion of the PMP IPMG merger, bringing the total redundancies up to 176 as the new entity seeks to become more cost-effective and efficient.

In addition to the 76 redundancies, 30 staff members have been relocated to IPMG’s Inprint facilities in Geebung, according to Rod Pahl, PMP spokesperson for the merger.

Pahl says, “The bulk of the redundancies are from Wacol, while the others are from various sites around the country. The closure is about PMP becoming a leaner, more efficient company.

“There has been a lot of work done to relocate people from Wacol to Inprint, the old IPMG facilities in Geebund, and a number of staff that were not retrenched today will be going there.”

In a statement, PMP noted that is making good progress on consolidating the business, and is working constructively with the AMWU in the process.

PMP has flagged ‘transformation’ for sites in NSW and QLD, meaning that more closures are a possibility as the companies seek synergies, and avoid duplications.

Pahl says PMP expects to have completed the merger process fully within 12-18 months.

“If it can be done quicker then that is ideal,” he says.
