Print newcomer buys Kiva Design & Print

Peter Nicholson may never have worked in printing but he says he understands the values that will enable Kiva Design and Print on the Central Coast to flourish.

Nicholson says retiring former owner Ain Moldre, as a sole trader, personally visited every one of his Central Coast clients to discuss their printing needs, instead of expecting them to come into his office or order online, and this is something he intends to continue.

“The model works well and the business is well known and respected all over the area, our clients know they will be looked after,” he says.

The small four-year-old business has built a client base of more than 150 small to medium businesses, including some well known companies such as Rigon Headwear.

It has no inhouse printing of its own, its business model focuses on providing high quality in-house design work, old-school customer service, with the print famred out to CMYKhub.

Nicholson, who has owned many businesses over the years including design and retail, has a keen interest in printing and saw Kiva, located in the town of Mardi, just north of Gosford, as a great way to get into the industry.

He will run the business with his wife Katie, and possibly his daughter, while Moldre will stay on for several months in a mentoring role before full retirement.

Nicholson says he wants to grow the business by building on what it already has and is considering expanding it into a franchise network sometime in the future.

“The growth will be through better marketing, web presence and increased brand visibility, along with Ain’s very effective tradition of direct outreach to local businesses,” he says.

Kiva designs and prints business cards, flyers, brochures, letterheads, menus, magazines, books, stickers, fridge magnets, logo design, and advertising art.
