Print Station future-proofed with new purchases

NSW printer Print Station has future-proofed itself with the installation of yet another piece of Horizon finishing equipment – a new Horizon BQ-280PUR perfect binder – and a HP R2000 wide format press.

The latest acquisitions have put Print Station exactly where it needs to be to best tackle the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic as it is now geared up to offer the trade a fast and reliable service with high quality vibrant print.

Print Station owner Lewis Liang says the timing of the new pieces of equipment could not have been worse with the HP R2000 installed in the same week as the COVID-19 shutdowns were enforced.

But the business which has existed now for 20 years and employs just under 20 staff has managed to ride the downturn and is now coming through to the other side with business activity now almost back to pre-COVID-19 levels.

Print Station definitely has some creditable print power at its factory in Sydney’s Carlton.

The offset side of the business is taken care of with a Ryobi RGMT LED UV press, while a HP Indigo 7800 Digital Press handles the digital print needs.

The all-important area of finishing is also well covered in terms of quality and capacity with the new BQ-280PUR perfect binder joining an existing Horizon StitchLiner 5500 scoring/folding/stitching and three-knife trimmer on site.

“Horizon equipment is the back bone of our post press,” Liang told Sprinter.

“We now have almost everything there is to offer from Horizon.

“We are very loyal customers of Currie Group. Their equipment is always of very high quality and is extremely reliable.

“The service we receive from Currie Group is the best. They respond very quickly and their staff are also very professional and well trained.

“Currie Group has been helping me to grow my business over the past 20 years.

“When I deal with Currie Group, I have peace of mind.”

The new HP wide format replaces two older wide format presses, a HP 2800 and a Oce Arizona.

Lewis Laing with the new HP R2000

“The latest HP R2000 can print on just about everything. Besides the normal vinyl, rigid media and fabric, it is also prints amazing quality on normal offset stocks. We are able to offer clients short run A1, A0 posters at a competitive price. The biggest advantage is it can offers more vibrant colour than the previous technology,” Liang said.

“The new HP R2000 can print on just about everything, it can do A1 posters double sided as well as print onto fabric. It has the white ink so the colour is so much more vibrant than what is possible on a UV flatbed,” Liang said.

Liang says taking the steps to invest in new technology is definitely the right way to go to keep a print business future-proofed and able to stay competitive.

“The market is demanding higher quality and shorter turn around times. Especially in this current challenging environment, we would have struggled to survive if we did not have the right equipment,” Liang said.

Currie Group NSW Account Manager Will Currie said: “Lewis has created a remarkable business, built from the ground up to establish a strong and repeatable brand.

“As a company, we are proud to be a supplier and supporter of his ever-growing business.”
