PrintCity goes green for Ipex

Visitors to the tradeshow will be able to access a range of research findings from alliance members at its Connection of Competence hub in hall 17 at the NEC in Birmingham.

Members of the alliance include Manroland, Sappi, Océ, UPM and Tolerans. The alliance will appear under a banner of ‘Print: Lean, Green, Seen’ at the show.

PrintCity claimed the environment is one of the most talked-about issues, but one that is the least fully understood by many in the industry.

David Stamp, director of marketing and communications, said: “The transition from a carbon-intense to a low-carbon and more sustainable society will be one of the single most important drivers of the first half of the 21st century for every business and inhabitant of the planet.

“Climatic and other environmental issues will have an accelerating impact across the entire value chain of publishers, advertisers, packagers, printers and their suppliers.”

The alliance’s hub at Ipex will include details of energy efficiency and optimisation in the web offset printers report.

PrintCity members have also been working on a Carbon Footprint & Energy Efficiency study since 2009, to be published later this year.

In December, the Alliance – which also includes Heidelberg, Eizo and Sun Chemical as members – signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change.
