Printers drawn to manroland event

The delegates heard the latest initiatives from the press giant, with three speakers coming in from Germany for the event, and several man roland partenrs also gave presentaitons.

These included academic Phil Lawrence, who spoke on carbon taxes and the current eco state of print, Mark Campbell of Agentink who provided a look at the savings still to be realised by JDF and JDM implementation, Amcor’s Bill Hicks gave an insight into the International Packaging Council with Wayne McDougall of SkilledForce commenting on the world of lean manufacturing.

Tony Kenney of IGATM presented the world’s makeready champion, the Roland 700 DirectDrive and also spoke about increasing print value with inline cold foiling. The technical aspects of the event were completed with presentations on sheetfed and web developments by manroland staff, local and from the German head office

One of the keynote addresses was Graham Plant of PMP Digital. Speaking about the effect of social media on advertising spend Plant clearly illustrated the effectiveness of print in any campaign. He also gave several examples of large businesses that had attempted the purely electronic media route with very poor results. That these businesses had returned to print was very well received in a room packed with the printing industry.

The inkjet manroland partner, Océ illustrated that inkjet technology was the growth area segment for digital printing systems. With inkjet web becoming the technology choice for some, the market leading web technologies of manroland complement the digital imaging market leader, Océ. Look for more excitement from this partnership at drupa was the message.

Excitement was also provided at the Gala Dinner by the manroland team and a cheeky magician. Bowling balls, cards and a rather dangerous looking knife, could not scare off a very determined manroland print demonstrator, to the enjoyment of all.

In closing the conference Steve Dunwell thanked all for their attendance, “When customers from all over Australia and New Zealand take time from their busy schedules to attend it makes the effort worthwhile. We have been well supported by our head office with three overseas specialists here today and I would also like to thank our other speakers. Mostly though, thanks to you, our customers for making this event such a real success”.

The next manroland customer club will be held in Melbourne in 2012. All manroland customers will again be invited.
