Printgraphics unveils new Komori 10-colour press

Printgraphics founder Ray Keen told ProPrint that the new Lithrone LS1040P press replaced a five colour Komori.

“That was 10 years old, so it was getting to the end of its useful life,” he said.

“Rather than getting another five-colour, we decided to go with the 10-colour. With Mr Rudd’s investment allowance, plus the fact that we were in a fairly good financial position to be able to afford it, all the ducks were in a row.”

Printgraphics produces mainly catalogues and periodicals and the 10-colour press will be used to produce 16pp sections of A4 material.

The new machine joins a six-colour Komori, which will work in tandem with the new press by producing covers.

“We like Komori,” Keen said. “Because we’ve used Komori before we’ve already got the plates set up for that system. Plus we like their environmental credentials as well.”

The LS1040P is said to use less energy than previous Lithrone iterations, as well as eliminating the use of alcohol.

Keen said the new press may open up new markets for the Mount Waverly-based printer, particularly with its ability to print on lighter stocks and on both sides simultaneously.

“We think it’s the most environmentally friendly and technologically advanced machine in Australia at the moment. It gives us consistency of colour and allows us to maintain our pricing,” he said.

“It’s just a nice machine.”

The company preparing to unveil the press to clients at a launch event next week.

The company purchased the press through Ferrostaal Australia, after initially dealing with Gerard Wintle through former Komori agent CPI Graphics.
