Pronto heads into wide format

Queensland printer Pronto Direct has purchased a Fuji Xerox 1600 LED to enter the growing wide format market. Pronto Direct, which employs 15 people, has been operating for more than 20-years and its services include laser printing, mail processing, database management, creative and design. Speaking with Australian Printer, Martin Zietsch, manager of art department, who has worked at Pronto Direct for 19 years, says more of the company’s work is laser printing, however, wide format section of the business was growing and the company wanted to get in early to advantage of the growth.

Zietsch says, “We had a lot of wide format work come in and we were forced to outsource them, which was not the best option as with outsourcing jobs there can be a lot of complications. “We did the numbers and realised that it was worth it for us to get the 1600 LED, which will now allow us to do banners, signs and larger posters.” He says purchasing the LED 1600 will allow the business to enter in the wide format market and produce large prints, which it already does but on a much smaller scale. Zietsch says, “We have the hp T120 that has been producing our wide format work but it is not enough so we are replacing it with the LED, which will allow for more versatility and lower cost of turnaround.” He says the business has been growing steadily in the last couple of years which has led to the employment of a second external sales person to ensure the growth is continued. “While most of the growth has been in laser printing, which has seen its volumes get bigger and bigger, the sales person will focus on this section of business as well as the wide format,” Zietsch says. “We have also just installed the second Xerox iGen press, which has an average monthly volume of 200,000 to 3,750,000 pages per month, and has been supplementing the increasing job demand.” Pronto Direct is part of a larger communications company, Morris International Group, which is an organisation comprising of property, manufacturing, information technology, tourism.
