Quickmail buys rival Lasermail

Perth print and mail operation Quickmail plans to double its business this financial year with the acquisition of fellow WA mailing outfit Lasermail.

Quickmail marketing director Sophie Stott says the acquisition adds to the $3m turnover company’s core business and cements its position as the fourth biggest mailhouse in WA.

“Lasermail had a similar offering to us so when we heard it was up for sale it seemed like a good way to grow our core business with new clients and key staff,” she says.

“This expansion will mean product initiatives, improved production speed, greater flexibility in terms of machinery and technology.”

Included in the takeover is an Oce 120 Varioprint digital printer, a five station polywrapper, and three C4 and C5 inserting machines.

Five of Lasermail’s nine staff will move across with director Michael Broughton retiring. The new faces give Quickmail a headcount of 20.

About 30 per cent of the company’s business is trade work but Stott says the Lasermail clients are mostly direct.

Quickmail prints, warehouses and distributes mostly promotional mail, catalogues and publications, including variable data and print on demand capabilities with a suite of cutsheet and inkjet printers.

Stott says state government contracts are a big part of its business, including promotional flyers and publications for the Health and Regional Development Departments and related agencies.

“Because we do mostly promotional mail our volumes have not dropped like others that rely on transactional mail, and we have added digital services like email this year to offer our clients more,” she says.
