RIMT’s print hall to get major makeover

The University-funded investment will include an upgrade to the existing Agfa CTP System, wide format proofing devices, desktop devices and integrated colour management and workflow system.

Simon Cochaud, director of the ICGT says, “Our new pre-press facility will match if not exceed the current industry standard, in terms of best practice and integration.”

The latest refurbishment follows an upgrade and refurbishment of the Centre’s presses, including Kompact Units on Heidelberg GTOs. The ICGT has spent about $200,000 on the entire 20-plus strong press fleet since July, with a further $75,000 committed in 2011.

Cochaud says, “The ICGT is the primary provider of formal training in graphic technologies in Victoria. RMIT’s investment in the pre-press facility, press hall and refurbishment of press equipment is a vote of confidence that the Centre will continue to be the benchmark nationally and regionally.”

Cochaud also explained that the ICGT continues to build on its relationship with industry partners, employers and students, with recent initiatives including:

  • ICP 10 New Training Package
  • Increase in “on the job” assessments for apprenticeship programmes and competency based completions programme
  • Cert IV in Printing, diploma of management and sales and diploma of digital production to be delivered in Victoria and Tasmania this year
  • Commencement of ICGT’s Greening Footprint and Environmental Focus
  • The establishment of ICGT’s Industry Advisory Committee
