Roland DG into digital signs for printers

Roland DG is now offering a system for printers to transform graphics into digital signs as an offshoot of their print businesses. The DisplayStudio software and hardware system can create presentations for point-of-sale displays, event graphics, restaurant menu boards, retail signage, corporate news broadcasts and the like. It is designed for sign makers as a complete, affordable solution that allows traditional sign shops to increase their profits by adding digital signage to their product mix.

Digital signage is growing rapidly and in October hit 16 per cent of the outdoor advertising industry’s total revenue, up from 13.9 per cent in Q2 of 2014. The OMA says it is seeing ‘unprecedented digital expansion’ this year, with more than 150 new digital screens launched across Australia. Greg Stone, sales manager for Roland DG Australia says, “Dynamic digital signage is in high demand, and it is a natural complement to wide format printed graphics. “Print providers that embrace this business opportunity can increase their revenues while better serving their customers.” The solution includes content management software, a digital media player and mounting hardware. The content management software includes a drag-and-drop interface that makes it easy to both produce presentations and organise them into playlists. Several file formats are supported, including MOV, WMV, JPEG, PNG, PPT, PDF and MP4. The software includes templates that allow the user to combine images, text and logos into dynamic digital presentations that drive home marketing and branding messages.

The graphic presentations can be changed on demand and managed remotely from any Windows-based or Mac computer. Roland DG offers a choice of Samsung commercial LCD displays as part of the DisplayStudio solution; ranging from 32 to 55 inches for up to 16 hour per day applications, and 32 to 65 inches for up to 24 hour per day applications. For end users who already have a monitor, the system is also available in a package that includes just the software, media player and mounting hardware. Stone says, “The DisplayStudio system includes everything sign shops need to design, implement and manage digital signage displays for their customers.”
