Roland launches first UV flatbed

Roland DG says customer demand led to the company launching its first VersaUV LEJ-640FT UV-LED flatbed printer, which it says prints of thick substrates fast. The company says one of the most unusual features of this flatbed is its capability to print on substrates up to 150mm thick and weighing as much as 100kg. Speaking with Australian Printer, Jake Higgins, Roland DG marketing team leader, says the company had a gap in its product range, and the idea to launch its first flatbed was confirmed by the high number of interest from clients visiting its stand at PrintEx.

Higgins says, “At the recent trade show our customers saw the brochures for the flatbed and their reaction and interest confirmed our view that the market was ready for a new flatbed.” Roland DG claims market leadership in the roll-to-roll sector so the arrival of a flatbed printer will spark interest in the market. He says the LEJ-640FT UV-LED flatbed printer, which is part of the VersaUV series, delivers unparalleled printing capabilities and superior compatibility with a wide range of substrates, including heavy and rigid materials. “With advanced features to improve everyday workflows such as automatic media height detection, mutli-mode base point selection and zoned vacuum system, the LEJ-640FT delivers the productivity that businesses are looking for,” Higgins says. “In addition to CMYK, the LEJ-640FT adds white and clear coat ECO-UV inks for POP displays, interior design, art, promotional products, and two-sided signs with high visual impact and exclusive dimensional effects.” Roland says the new flatbed also has dual media sensors that automatically detect media thickness, allowing the setup of material in a matter of seconds making the machine more efficient and fast. It has the company says a cross-hair guide for extreme base-point selection, with a multi-mode allowing for fast return to previous position for repeat or additional jobs. Higgins says the machines has a powerful, zoned vacuum system for holding difficulty materials flat, allowing jobs to be set up while another job is printing. “The 1625mm x2490mm flatbed has ECO-UV inks, which come in 500cc cartridges and its low-heat UV LED curing system makes it capable of printing on a variety of applications,” he says. “The printer also has patent-pending automatic ink circulation system and produces flawless 1440 x 1440 dpi prints.” The manufacturer says the new printer has an easy-to-use handheld control unit for full printer operation and status monitoring, and a two sided printing with edge-to-edge capability. The machine also has the Roland Intelligent pass control for enhanced image quality with a comprehensive two year warranty and includes a VersaWorks rip software.
