Screen changes mind on PrintEx inkjet showcase

Screen says demand for digital has forced it to drop showcasing its inkjet web at PrintEx for a digital label press after the company sold its first Truepress Jet L350UV in Australia. The manufacturer and supplier of printing and pre-media technology, Screen, says the ‘last minute strategic decision’ to replace the Truepress Jet 520 for the digital label Truepress Jet L350UV, is to sell more of the presses in Australia. Peter Scott, Screen managing director says: “The installation for Australia’s first L350UV machine is underway now and the customer’s name and location will be announced very shortly. The customer has been running live jobs on the Technologies’ demonstration L350UV for several weeks and is totally satisfied with the results, including white ink.

“The decision was made last week in Japan, since the label market is buoyant and we now have our first customer; we will exhibit the L350UV instead of the planned Truepress Jet520 inkjet web machine.” He says to ensure Screen met the PrintEx15 deadline, the company will ship the L350UV and will also invite an engineer to provide expert advice. Screen says the inkjet UV label press features a 350mm maximum web and 322mm print width and speed up to 50 metres a minute. The company says the digital press is designed for ‘high uptime demanding productivity’ with up to 16.1sqm a minute of full colour printed label stock. Images are rendered as photo-realistic with ‘smooth gradations and fine detail’. Screen says it will be showing a roll-to-roll machine at PrintEx15 but both inline and near-line label finishing systems will be available; either Screen’s JetConverter line or Jet Technologies’ Smag solutions from Gulmen Engineering. Scott says, “For the first time a high volume Australian label producer has chosen an inkjet solution over electrophotographic or toner. “It is the start of a whole new trend, which label printers will be able to see close-up at PrintEx.” PrintEx15 will be held at Sydney Olympic Park on May 13-15.
