Senior editorial changes at News Ltd

Alan Howe was appointed executive editor of the Herald and Weekly Times and Simon Pristel as editor of the Sunday Herald Sun.

Howe has edited the Sunday Herald Sun since 1993 and in that 12 year period has increased its circulation by 150,000 sales per week and made it Australia’s fastest growing newspaper.

News Limited chairman and CEO John Hartigan says Howe’s passion for the Sunday Herald Sun had been the hallmark of his editorship and a major reason for its outstanding success.

“I am delighted Alan will now be able to widen his brief in an executive role where his drive and innovation can be applied more broadly,” says Hartigan.

In his new role, Howe will assist in the planning and development of all HWT publications and online activities.

The new Sunday Herald Sun editor, Simon Pristel, has been joint deputy editor of the Sunday Herald Sun for the past two years. He was formerly with the Herald Sun as assistant editor and chief of staff and has worked in several editorial bureaux in Australia and overseas.

“Simon is one of the rising stars at News who has earned his chance to lead one of Australia’s most successful newspapers,” says Hartigan.
