Shepparton News upgrades Goss pre

Printing 11 titles including dailies, weeklies and bi-weeklies, its leading title, the Shepparton News, is printed five days a week with an average circulation of 12,400 copies. It also contract prints a number of other newspapers and magazines, bringing its total print run to between 1.5 and 1.8million impressions per week.

Paul Kelly, Shepparton News print operations manager, says, “We have a long history with Goss and the Community press. There are a lot of clones in the marketplace these days but we want to stick with what we know and we know that the Community performs well for us. A lot of planning was involved in this press project regarding various configurations but the choice of press supplier was never in question – we will always favour the expertise of Goss.”

Shepparton News has been updating its press periodically to gain greater colour capacity over the past several years. This new tower additions order, along with the new 1:3:3 jaw folder and seven additional splicers, is viewed by Shepparton Press as a natural progression to the colour upgrade that was carried out in 1997 with the addition of two four-high towers. This upgrade will further increase the facility’s press capability.

“We hope that when the new towers are installed we may be able to increase our share of the contract print market in this region and that other opportunities may open up for us,” says Kelly.

“However, our prime reason for this press extension is to provide the very best service and technology to our existing internal and external customers. Enabling us to print our publications in full colour if required, this extension is a major boost to our production capability and flexibility.”
