Signarama Oakleigh is first in franchise with Roland DG XR-640

Sign-A-Rama Oakleigh, in Melbourne's south, has become the first Sign-A-Rama in Australia to purchase a Roland DG SolJet Pro4 XR-640 printer-cutter.

Managing director Rohan Blackburn told ProPrint that the machine's combination of print quality and speed made it ideal for the expanding signage business.

"We've already had a Roland SP-540V for about eight years. We looked at an HP machine as well, but we decided to stay with Roland because it was a better fit for our business," said Blackburn.

"The Roland SolJet Pro4 XR-640 gives us the print quality, the output speed and the ability to print and cut. We were also impressed by the colour gamut it can print, and its ability to print white," he said.

"The bulk of the work we'll put through it will be for external signage and window graphics."

Sign-A-Rama Oakleigh is about to celebrate 15 years in business as a general signwriting company, although it has diversified into a wider graphics market in that time.

"We do anything and everything. We tend to deal with smaller to medium businesses for shopfronts, external signage, point of sale graphics, and illuminated signage as well, including illuminated menu boards. We've done work Australia-wide, but most of our work is Melbourne metro," said Blackburn.

John Wall, sales director at Roland DG, said: "Rohan at Sign-a-Rama Oakleigh has been a longstanding Roland user. We were pleased to be able to help Rohan take the next step in his wide-format technology needs with the Pro4 XR-640 printer cutter.

"Being the first in the Sign-A-Rama franchise group to purchase the XR-640 was a decision Rohan made after extensive research, and the XR-640 ticked all the boxes. We look forward to being a part of the growth process for Rohan and his business."

The installation at Sign-A-Rama was problem free, said Rohan Blackburn.

"We're really pleased with it since it was installed about a month ago. Our operators already know the RIP, and Roland DG gave us extra training on the machine, so getting up to production has been very smooth."
