Slower ad growth in print

The agency predicted the fastest growing old media sector next year would be outdoor, which is expected to post advertising revenue of 5.4 per cent. The newspaper ad market would grow two per cent while the magazine ad market is predicted to rise 1.9 per cent.

Group M also says the increase in total media ad spending would slow from 6.2 per cent this year to 5.8 per cent in 2009, however on-line and pay television sectors will continue to strong growth.

The agency which also covers media agencies MediaCom, MindShare, Mediaedge:cia and Maxus, also outlined that growth of one or two per cent in traditional media sectors will still be a good result given the strong growth they showed in 2007 and 2008.

The four Group M agencies place around $1.7bn of media advertising a year. The agency says its forecast was based on econometric modelling, trends and analyse, however they will be revised in December.
