Gary Cobbledick, CEO of Spectra Training, collected the award at the ACPET 2013 national conference on August 29 and 30 in Adelaide. He says, “I am proud of what our print training team has achieved over the past year. They have worked tirelessly. They have engaged with industry and worked extremely closely with our clients. They are modernising apprenticeship training for the printing industry.” Following RMIT University’s print training shutdown last year, Spectra stepped in to offer courses in pre-press, printing and finishing, acquiring a number of the RMIT print training assets and hiring most of the RMIT trainers. Guided by a stakeholder reference group made up of industry professionals, the trainer prides itself on its industry engagement, abreast of the latest trends and training needs of the industry. “Each person on that group is very committed to the future of print training, and they’ve been very generous in making suggestions and offering up their own facilities in some cases to assist with training,” says Cobbledick. He adds, “We’re always open to ideas on how we can broaden apprentices’ experience. We brought a whole lot of apprentices down to PacPrint earlier this year, to give them broader exposure.” Claire Field, CEO of ACPET, says, “At a time when the printing industry is going through unprecedented change, it is those companies committed to a training culture that will grow and thrive. “The ACPET Awards for Excellence recognise Spectra Training as the best of the best for industry focused training, across all industries. I congratulate Gary and the team at Spectra for their commitment to both the training and printing industries.”
