Stadium Signs takes on Everest and the Arctic at Tough Mudder

The Melbourne large-format printer produced and installed all the sponsor signage for Victoria Bitter and Holden Colorado over a 10-day period, said director Pamela Hammond.

Highlights included the 'Arctic Enema', an ice bath with VB signage, and the 'Everest Wall', a 4×24-metre obstacle with Holden branding, she told ProPrint.

"That wall was a big challenge. You can imagine 18,000 people going over it – if the name had come off, our name would have been mud. It was our reputation on the line," she said.

"The 24 wall panels were made of 6mm, 2,400×1200 recycled polypropylene sheets. These sheets were delivered to us prior to the event and we tested various self-adhesive vinyl media to ensure the graphics would not only adhere but stay on for the event."

Stadium Signs also produced leader boards, stage banners, crowd control barriers, car graphics, stickers and A-boards for the 19-20 January event, she said.

Hammond, fellow director Leigh Onions and production coordinator Natalie Onions all participated in the 20km endurance challenge, which featured more than 20 obstacles, electric shock zones and lots of mud. Hammond will have to undergo a knee reconstruction after injuring herself on the 'Berlin Wall'.

Leigh and Natalie Onions are planning to compete at the next Tough Mudder, at Sydney in April, which will also be supplied by Stadium Signs.
