“Major contributing factors for disappointing results in the second quarter of 2003 included the unseasonably cold and wet weather in the US that resulted in lower volumes for producers of beverage containers; in addition, inventory de-stocking by consumer product companies and retailers and sluggish economic conditions particularly affected the flexible plastic packaging segment – mainly producers of commodity-type films”, says Standard & Poor’s credit analyst Liley Mehta.
