Supa Stik, Hally and Datamail win at HP Asia Pacific awards

Local winners included Western Australian company Supa Stik Labels, and NZ-based companies Hally Labels and Datamail, which won the ‘Food Industry’, ‘Alcoholic Beverage’, and ‘Direct Mail’ categories.

Some 359 entries from 14 countries were submitted to the awards, which comprised 18 categories.

There were five winners from China, though the biggest winner of the night was Indonesia’s Kisah Publishing, which took home awards in ‘Self-Promotion Collateral’, ‘Books & Manuals’ and ‘Packaging Printing’.

More than 800 guests piled into the Grand Hilton Seoul for the gala event, which was held in conjunction with the first Dscoop Asia Pacific and the Korean International Printing Machinery & Equipment Show 2010.

The award judging panel was made of up regional buyers, including executives from Publicis Singapore, Leo Burnett, and Marshall Cavendish Publishing Group.

John Solomon, who recently became senior vice president of the HP Indigo Imaging & Printing Group after many years on the consumer side of the business, said: “One of the most powerful things we can do as human beings is leave our mark. I think that is a unifying part of being in this business.

“It is very special for me coming from the outside and seeing the passion in this business,” said Solomon.

Supa Stik’s win continues a streak of success for the comany at HP events, after picking up the alcoholic beverage label award at last year’s global HP Indigo Digital Labels and Packaging Contest.

At last night’s event, Alon Bar-Sharny also announced the departure of VS ‘Harry’ Hariharan, vice-president of HP’s graphic solutions business for Asia Pacific.

Bar-Sharny said: “When [Indigo founder] Benny Landa spoke this morning about values, Harry’s was the first name that came to mind.

“He is probably the person with the most humility I have ever met in a senior management position,” he added.
