Sydney printer buys MGI off KM stand at PrintEx

Inner Sydney printer Skyline Print and Design has made a snap decision to purchase an MGI JetVarnish 3DS from Konica Minolta at PrintEx19 with the plan to offer it up for trade work also.

It took just two days for Skyline owner Flora Zhou to take the step and buy the spot varnish and digital foiling embellishment machine which will substantially improve the offering at her business in Sydney’s Chippendale.

Zhou also bought a AccurioPress C3070 in the same transaction with both machines standing to take her business to a new level, increase options for customers and improve profitability while still supplying the core printing services.

“This will just give our customers the option to build their dreams,” Zhou told Sprinter.

“In our area we have lots of graphic designers that are often doing short runs and brand presentations. They are happy to pay for it but sometimes it takes too long to make it happen and they always have very tight deadlines.

“They don’t mind paying the price for it but they want it quick, now but who can do that?

“So if we do it traditionally it takes about four or five days minimum and that is just hopeless. They just don’t like it and then the customer is gone. They say ‘what you are you talking about’.”

Kevin Abergel, vice president sales and marketing, MGI applauded Zhou for having the courage to take this step.

“It’s fantastic news, we have a customer who understands the value of what this can bring and the need for this kind of digital embellishment,” Abergel told Sprinter.

“She is smart enough to really see the opportunity and jump in with both feet. I really applaud printers who put the emphasis on value and understand the value of the product and what print can be to customers.”

Devan Nair of Konica Minolta said: “It is a partnership we are going into and obviously we will help her build her business up. She is going to be acting as a trade printer and it is going to change the dynamics of her business because she is going to be printing and foiling.
