The Bindery expands into wide format

Australia’s biggest trade finishing house is branching out into the wide format market and will be launching the service for its trade clients by early January.

The Bindery operations manager Ian Leckie tells Australian Printer the multi-million dollar investment was initiated earlier this year with the purchase of mounting and gluing equipment.

The Melbourne firm has now added more wide format equipment to its gamut, the details of which will be under wraps until January.

Leckie says, “Wide format is a growing market and a lot of companies have been able to get involved in part of it, but we will be offering an end-to-end service.

“We wanted to set a new scene for The Bindery with a new business line we can run into the future. It will be a trade service offering, we will be looking to service the printing industry.”

The Bindery describes itself as a one-stop solution that caters for all post-press needs. Apart from binding, it also has capabilities in laminating, creasing, trimming, drilling and guillotining.

The finishing house was under the helm of general manager and print identity Rob Dunnett for 10 years up until his departure in July 2015.

Dunnett’s resignation came 10 months after the business was purchased by Naresh Gulati’s marketing company OCA Group. He joined industry supplier Currie Group.

A new general manager was not appointed to replace Dunnett. Since then, Leckie says the business has been getting plenty of work.

“We have been very busy most of the year, we have been flat out making profit each month and the work load has been very good for us, especially for this current financial year,” he says.

“I think the print industry is very tough in the commercial world and that is why you need to make investments, so you can withstand the ups and downs.”

The Bindery will be releasing more details on its new wide format service in early January.
