Three print companies look at moving into former Energi Print site

Miracle Bookbinding and Ability Press said they are planning to move into the site on 1 October, while Mylund Print & Packaging is in the process of moving in today (2 September).

Michael Wu, director of Miracle and Ability, told ProPrint he was looking forward to moving his two companies from their separate sites into “a bigger joint in a better location with better access”.

Miracle Bookbinding and Ability Press are located in neighbouring Melbourne suburbs of Springvale and Mulgrave.

Wu said the combined entity would have close to 60 staff, with a 50/50 split from both companies.

Mylund managing director Eddie Myers told ProPrint he was in the middle of the relocation today.

A fourth print firm, McLaren Press, is considering relocating to the site further down the track.

“We are in the midst of selling our factory,” said director John McLaren. “[We’ll] let those guys settle in to see how it works for them.” McLaren Press is based in Richmond.

The news was confirmed by landlord Kamrul Chowdhury, owner of used machinery dealer PNS Graphics.

“Ability Press are looking at renting it from me. We have agreed they are moving in in October,” said Chowdhury.

He said the site had not been used for the past month, adding that the lease was currently held by Lenny Todisco from Printlinx.

Todisco confirmed that Mylund was sub-letting the space.

He added that he was waiting on the outcome of an upcoming auction of machinery from the site before signing over the lease but was “pretty sure it will all go through”.

The auction, which Todisco said would include a 10-colour perfector and a six-colour sheetfed press, is scheduled to take place at the site on 22 September, and will be run by National Auctions’ Peter Brand.

ProPrint has been told that a company Twenty Five Olive, formerly known as Energi Print Pty Ltd, which went into administration on 6 November, remains subject to legal proceedings.
