The ZMR is the product of Timsons’ drive to maximise productivity and efficiency in web book printing through a continual programme of innovation. It delivers genuine Zero Make Ready on one-colour books. While one unit prints at speeds up to 400m/min., the press man changes plates on the other unit.
As soon as the active unit finishes printing the last signature, the second unit – already accelerated and synchronised at web speed – immediately begins printing. There is a minimum of paper waste, and lost production time is measured in seconds.
This technology has brought a drastic reduction in profitable run lengths: changeovers after runs of 1000 or less are becoming an increasing trend.
The ZMR design with a blanket-to-blanket distance of less than one metre also gives greater control for two-colour work. Although the press must be stopped for a plate change, it still takes advantage of Timsons’ Semi-Automatic Plate Changing system. Unloading both old plates at the same time, then loading the new plates simultaneously – first on one unit and then on the other – minimises changeover time and cost.
A double web twin to the ZMR has also been launched – the ZMR². TThis high-speed 550m/minute machine can produce over 65,000 48-page signatures per hour, with automation features including roll preparation, auto-loading and palletisers for integrated production.
