Versant 2100 launched by Fuji Xerox

Printers across the country can expect Fuji Xerox sales reps to be knocking on their doors in the next few weeks, as serious training gets underway for the company’s new Versant 2100 mid production 100ppm digital colour printer. In a one-on-one briefing given to Australian Printer at the company’s Sydney showroom, which preceded the training for Fuji Xerox staff, Chris Irick, worldwide product marketing manager, Xerox Corp said the Versant 2100 is a 100ppm printer built from the ground up to deliver flexibility, productivity, quality, consistency and reliability for commercial printers, copy shops, franchises and digital printers. The Versant 2100 has been designed from new to fill the niche between Xerox’s C75/J75 light production series and the Color 800, it is aimed at producing personalised communications, brochures, photo publishing opportunities and specialty products, for printers with average monthly volumes of 75,000 to 250,000. It will out 100 A4 pages a minute, or 52 A3 sized, in stock eights of 52gsm to 350gsm.

Irick says key attributes of the Versant are its image quality achieved through 1200 x 1200dpi x 10-bit, its front to back registration, which he says is unrivalled, down to 0.5mm and is fully automated, its auto stock calibration system, and its new compact fuser system. Irick says, “This press is a workhorse. It produces 26 per cent more sellable print than other printers in its class, it has longer life components and will deliver job after job.” The Versant has up to six feed trays, or pick points as Irick coined them, which comprise three standard trays, two optional trays for oversize SRA3 sheets, and a manual feed tray. The two oversize trays provide registration accuracy of 0.5mm, the manual feed 0.8mm and the three standard trays 1mm. The EA Eco Dry Ink toner has a low melt level, so uses less energy. The new compact belt fuser runs stocks of 52-300gsm at 100pm, 301 to 350gsm at 80ppm. Media range is wide, including offset stocks. Irick says the Versant 2100 can produce PMS colours and gives what the company is terming Ultra HD quality; he says the 10-bit processor with 1200 x 1200dpi gives a ‘300 per cent’ increase in image quality. He says, “It also means there is no banding, especially with the EFI Fiery rip.” Other features include an integrated decurling unit and an inline sheet cooler, which Irick says eliminates bricking in the pile. He says, “The full width array which is standard on this press is important, it enables base line colour calibration of the press with the push of two buttons. The automated colour quality system provides consistency and accuracy, with less waste through destination profiling.” The demo that was given to Australian Printer also showcased the automated media calibration system. For finishing Jay Daley, solutions marketing manager – hardware, with Fuji Xerox Australia says, “The Plockmatic Pro 35 / 50 booklet maker is an inline option that will enable multiple products to be produced online, and because of this it will be appealing to printers.” The Versant 2100 will be available to install in August. With the advent of the Versant 2100 Fuji Xerox is officially retiring its DocuColor range.
