Wide format makes a visual impact on the Gold Coast

While commercial print continues to struggle for growth no such worries are afflicting the display graphics industry, at least that is the word from virtually everyone, suppliers and printers, attending the Visual Impact Image Expo (VIIE) on the Gold Coast last month.

Printers reported continued strengthening demand for their services, as many of their customers – retailers in particular – are increasingly valuing the high impact low cost graphic communications tool that large format printing provides.

Similarly on the supply side exhibitors were out in force, and showing much to pique the interest of those printers, who are looking for higher productivity systems to meet the needs of their clients.

New from Anitech at the show was the Jetrix 1212, in fact Barry Grant, managing director of Anitech says it was the first time it had been shown anywhere in the world.

The show also marked the official launch of Epson’s new SureColor SC-S30600, its new eco-solvent printer. The press is aimed at sign shops, display printers, and commercial printers the SureColor, according to Epson, prints photo-quality images.

Total solutions was the message from Fuji Xerox at the show, with the company highlighting its ability to supply hardware, software, media and supplies.

Printers at the show had their first chance to look at the new entry level Océ Arizona 318GL. Based on the regular Arizona 360, which in fact is the world’s top selling wide format printer.

New on the Positive Camtec stand was a swissQprint 1.5m flatbed and roll to roll UV printer, one of the three models manufactured by the Swiss operation. The manufacturer is a relatively new company, established when Zuund stopped making printers and the staff decided to go out on their own.
