Wodonga print business back in family hands

Mark Collins and his wife Cyndie have bought the business established by her aunt and uncle, Kerry and Marg McClure.

The Collins family have owned and operated The Corryong Courier newspaper since 1993 when they purchased it from Cyndie Collins’ father, Col McClure.

He said the McClures started the printing business in Nilmar Avenue, Wodonga, in 1954.

In 1970, they built premises in Hovell Street where the business continues to operate from. The McClures still own the building.

“When the opportunity came up to buy McClure Printing we decided to take it because it complements our newspaper business”, says Mark Collins.

“It also restores the family connection with the business and Cyndie and I have always had an affinity with the area.

“We have done a lot of work with the paper, including going to colour, and we see this as another challenge. We plan to grow the printing business”.

Collins says the traditions of service, quality and price would continue.

“But we also have to move with the times, and that is what we are aiming to do”.

Plans for the business include an on-site service for customers in terms of helping them determine and design their printing and marketing needs.

“I was a system designer and analyst in Canberra before going into newspapers and my background means I can help them design the business stationery they need”, Collins says.

“We will do all their inhouse stationery as well as marketing or promotional material. We want to provide a whole-of-business service, not just printing on demand.

“Our service will also include web design for any clients wanting to go on to the internet”, he says.

Collins added that the company would soon install a new press at the printery, which would be designed to cater for small colour runs.

They have also invested with another country-based printer in a four-colour press which enables them to enter the top end of the printing market.
