Women in Print celebrates completion of HP Indigo Digital Press Scholarship

Women in Print Australia, in partnership with HP and Currie Group, has celebrated the successful completion of the inaugural HP Indigo Digital Press Scholarship, which concluded training on Friday 3 October at Currie Group’s training facility in Hawthorn, Victoria.

The scholarship provided four recipients with the opportunity to undertake Level 1 HP Indigo Digital Press Operator Certification training, building technical capability and confidence for women and non-binary individuals across the print, signage, graphics and visual media industry.

The first cohort, Annabelle Radford, Arlo-Cyrus Bruhn, Chisato Moriguchi, and Jane Jackson, represented a cross-section of the industry, from design and operations through to paper supply and production.

“I applied because I wanted to understand more about emerging technologies in print production and to connect with other women in the industry,” said Annabelle Radford, a Sydney-based designer.

“This week has been incredibly beneficial to my practice and opened up new creative possibilities. I’d definitely consider an apprenticeship and further training in print.”

Arlo-Cyrus Bruhn, from Valiant Press/ Neo in Victoria shared, “I already had experience working on toner machines, but this week has expanded the range of presses I can operate. Learning how and why the Indigo works – and what’s expected in maintenance – has given me a stronger foundation to operate with confidence”.

Chisato Moriguchi of Perth’s Advance Press said, “I felt I was missing a few of the foundations. Steve explained things well and gave me practical advice that helped fill my knowledge gaps. I feel much more confident now and would love to go on to Level 2 Certification to continue developing my skills”.

For Jane Jackson of Ball & Doggett, Melbourne, the scholarship was an opportunity to expand technical understanding from a supplier perspective.

“I’ve worked in the industry for a long time, but I wanted a deeper understanding of Indigo technology. Knowing how substrates interact with the press helps me recommend the right paper for the job; and the print quality we’re seeing now is truly impressive.”

Stephanie Gaddin, chair of Women in Print Australia, said the program’s success reflects the power of partnership and the appetite for technical upskilling across the sector.

“This scholarship has done more than just train four individuals, it’s created a blueprint for how collaboration between technology providers, suppliers, and industry associations can make a measurable difference,” Gaddin said.

“Seeing the enthusiasm, confidence, and curiosity this week has inspired in our cohort reinforces for me why Women in Print Australia exists — to empower, connect, and create opportunities across all career stages.”

Marcus Robinson, director of operations at Currie Group, also acknowledged the impact of the initiative.

“Currie Group is proud to deliver this program with the support of HP,” Robinson said.

“Investing in technical education and diversity is vital to ensuring the longevity and vibrancy of our industry. The energy and dedication shown by this first cohort has been remarkable – we look forward to seeing where their skills take them next.”

The Women in Print HP Indigo Digital Press Scholarship will return in 2026, continuing to create access to industry-leading training for women and non-binary professionals across Australia.

Women in Print  is hosting its final events for 2025 this month with Print & Prosecco events taking place in Launceston on the 24 October and Perth, Sydney and Melbourne all scheduled for Thursday 30 October. Details for the events and tickets can be found at https://womeninprint.com.au/network.
