Woolies mag reaches “lucrative” buyers, generates sales

Woolworths' in-store magazine is so popular that the monthly is the fourth most-read magazine in Australia.

Fresh is produced by Hannanprint.

Roy Morgan Research found that Fresh was read each month by 1.68 million Australians, or 8.8% of the population, for the 12 months to 30 June 2013.

"Data indicates that Fresh is reaching a lucrative target audience with big discretionary spending power," according to Roy Morgan Research.

"Primarily female and their household’s main grocery buyer, the typical Fresh reader is 64% more likely than the average Australian to spend $200-plus per week on groceries and 20% likelier to try new food types."

Fresh readers are also 51% more likely to try new brands and 60% more likely to buy new kitchen gadgets and small electrical appliances, according to Roy Morgan Research.

Woman’s Day was Australia’s most popular magazine in 2012-13 with 1.93 million readers followed by Women’s Weekly with 1.78 million and Better Homes & Gardens with 1.75 million.

Woolworths declined ProPrint's request for comment.
