Xeikon launches liquid toner Trillium

Trillium will be the first implementation of Xeikon’s High Viscosity Toner (HVT) technology, formally called Quantum. At drupa Xeikon demonstrated a Trillium prototype. The prototype incorporates this new High Viscosity Toner, which the company says will enable printing at high speeds as well as lower costs, while maintaining the highest level of image quality and eco-sustainability. The technology will be first implemented in a range of products dedicated to the document and commercial printing markets.

The new printing process consists of six steps: charging, expose and erase, develop & clean, intermediate transfer, substrate transfer and fixation of the toner. The particles are charged just before printing, incorporating both a transfer and fuse process. Xeikon says it is compatible with existing deinking and recycling installations and uses the same type of polyester resin system as used in Xeikon’s dry toners, adding that the new toner has the potential to become fully sustainable.

Xeikon also introduced the Xeikon 3030Plus, a narrow web digital label press with a printing speed of 15.0mpm, using LED-array imaging technology, which combines 1200 dpi resolution at four-bit. The company claims virtually unlimited variable repeat length, saying the printing speed of the press is not affected by either the label size or the number of colors used and that it can print on a range of substrates, including various self-adhesive materials constructions including co-extruded films, Bopp, PVC and PET, paperboards, paper with weights ranging from 40 to 350 gsm and transparent and opaque PET films. At the front end, the X-800 has a modular set-up, allowing prepress functions, such as impositions and color management, to be performed in the prepress environment. It also allows inclusion of metadata functionalities, such as sequential numbers and/or barcodes.

In further developments, the company says its new Xeikon 8000 Series, for the document printing market, uses Xeikon’s top-end technology.

Xeikon says its new Color Control, a colour management tool for label and packaging applications as well as for the document printing market, enables repeatable and predictable colours and the best simulation of custom spot colours through a cloud based application. It allows printers to profile their Xeikon presses and create colour tables for specific colours

The company has also introduced ThermoFlexX, a new product line of reliable, high quality imagers for the flexographic and letterpress markets and the next generation of basysPrint UV-Setters, in four-up, eight-up and VLF format, for the commercial CTP market.
