Xeikon targets VDP and packaging

Grish Rewal, managing director of Australian distributor Absolute Electronics, says, “We have had very positive feedback from the Xeikon that is producing labels and packaging for Geon, and we believe there are great opportunities in transpromo with the likes of Telstra and Optus. Short run packaging and labels will only increase, and the benefits of variable data marketing are well proven.

“The new Xeikon 3500 will print on a reel 500mm wide, and has the functionality to handle folding carton with a hybrid finishing line. Both self adhesive and wet glue are ideal, and the 3500 will lay down a white when printing on clear film. What’s more the ink is FDA approved for touching food.”

Wim Maes, CEO Punch Graphix, says, “Less than two years after a strong showing at drupa, we’re bringing very important new innovations to Ipex. These include the new Xeikon 3500, a significant speed increase for the Xeikon 8000 and two new toners.”

Launched at the show, the Xeikon 3500 has a maximum printing width of 510 mm with production of up to 570 sqm/hr in four-colour or five-colour production, with no reduction in speed based on the number of colours used, according to Xeikon. It prints at 1200 dpi with a 4-bit spot, and has application for self-adhesive labels, heat transfer labels and cartons, using the new QA-1 toner, approved for indirect and direct contact with dry food.

Xeikon has upgraded its 8000 printer to deliver speeds of up to 260 ppm or 19m/minute and says that printers must be upgraded to the new Xeikon QA-P toner to achieve these speeds on up to 80 gsm substrates with unlimited toner coverage.

Xeikon presented QA, its quadrupled adapted toners, which come in two types: the industrial version (QA-I), and the productivity version (QA-P). QA-I toner has been developed for the Xeikon 3000 family and for the packaging and labelling market.

Xeikon also showed its IPDS workflow and its X-800 digital front-end, which it says can be integrated into any production environment.
