Aldus increases label speed at PacPrint

Ian Gaunaria, general manager for Aldus, says the new quick change die cassette, released in Chicago last year, is new to the Southern Hemisphere. He says, “Traditionally, it can take 10-15 minutes to change a die; this can change in a minute. It is a slide in, slide out cart, forming part of the in line process. Last year in Chicago, it created a phenomenal amount of interest in the industry and we have sold two of them already. The P series, released in 2009 at Labelexpo in Brussels, are regarded as the fastest selling narrow web machine ever. He says, “We have 10 Australia and New Zealand. These P series machines are quite productive and with the die cassette, productivity jumps even further as well as a drop in material wastage.

Also new on the Aldus stand, the new GEW UV drying system is 30 per cent, more efficient. That’s the name of the game nowadays. He says, “Traditionally to set up a new job, you might use 500metres of new material, but on this machine, we had a customer who only wasted 28m. The efficiencies are increasing and it’s not just labels. There are a lot of other products that traditional label companies are entering such as flexible packaging short run. The machines are a lot more versatile than they used to be and they can be more efficient than the wide web machines for short runs. Because the machines can produce other materials, they can look outside the square.”

In business since 1949, Aldus has a strong history of supporting PacPrint. Guanaria says, “We have been at every show since the inception of PacPrint. We are only one of a handful of companies who can say that. We always have working machinery here and we always try to have something new.”
