The 48-staff company is midway through a move across town to a 2,500sqm site, three times the size of the facility it has occupied since 1980.
Commercial general manager Michael Newell told ProPrint the company had outgrown its old Albion St site, explaining that the installation of an eight-colour press in 2008 had pushed the facility to capacity.
“The new site gives us capacity for further growth. It’s substantially larger, gives us improved workflows, is air-conditioned, and has more room for storage and dispatch,” Newell said.
The company is also said to have placed an order for a new $2m press, according to the Warwick Daily News, which is published by APN News and Media. Newell would not yet comment on the deployment.
A new press would lead to an increase in staff at APN Print Warwick, said Newell, as well as helping the printer keep pace with its commercial offering, which is currently on the rise.
“We picked up some contracts that involve printing perfect-bound publications and doing the covers for that, hence the increase in volume,” Newell said.
The company does most of its printing for local community publications, as well as handling various APN News and Media work.
Newell said that its parent company accounts for roughly 30-40% of the printer’s work, with commercial printing now the company’s “primary focus”.
The fully sheetfed offset company also runs design, pre-press and finishing divisions.
The bulk of its work is magazine printing, though it also produces catalogues, newsletters, flyers, brochures and stationery.
APN Print Warwick is a wholly owned subsidiary of APN News and Media and one of seven APN Print sites across Queensland.
APN News & Media publishes magazines and newspapers across Australia and New Zealand, including the leading metropolitan newspaper, the New Zealand Herald. Its Australian footprint extends from northern NSW to far north Queensland.
