The Auckland printer produced an experimental logo for Jacob’s Creek on a four-colour Heidelberg GTO 52.
“Combining such different effects as a wax seal, metal badge, blind embossing and foiling in gold and silver, the sheet was produced on two different paper stocks in order to highlight the different look each process would create,” said the award committee.
Logic Print principal David Gick said the Supreme Award reflected his company’s desire to keep improving.
“The market is a very tough one, so if you are thinking about sitting on your laurels and not moving forward, you are in a bad position,” he said.
“To keep the price of the job down for the end customer, all of the images on the A4 page were purely a two-up foil block or embossed block,” added Gick.
“From memory, there were about 32 passes on this A4 sheet, which all had to be kept in register. But some jobs you take on because you believe in what the end result is and you are prepared to put the effort in to get the end result for the customer.”
Service Printers (Wellington), Sealed Air Hamilton (Hamilton), Original Print (Auckland) and Sentra Printing (Auckland) all bagged two awards each.
Rapid Labels (Auckland) claimed one award and also saw one of its employees, Gareth Hilton, named Apprentice of the Year.
The other winners were Permark Industries (Auckland), Printstop (Wellington), Soar Printing (Auckland), Geon Kingsland (Auckland), GTO Printers (Auckland), APN Print Hastings (Hastings) and Panprint (Auckland).
Hilton said he was “extremely proud and honoured” to be named Apprentice of the Year.
“It is a fantastic way of recognising the hard work and effort it took, and the best way to repay my managers, workmates, friends and family who supported and encouraged me all the way through.”
The awards night was held in Auckland on 29 June and attracted more than 600 guests.
