Barcode giant and PIAA team up

A partnership between the PIAA and barcode provider GS1 Australia will bring printers cheaper barcode services, as part of the industry peak body’s Better Business Group.

The partnership brings preferred barcode services and information access at member rates to PIAA members using or considering the use of barcodes in their product mix.

GS1 will also run a PIAA-hosted webinar on August 13 explaining the barcode business opportunity for printers and outlining their support services.

PIAA communication, technology and creative services national director Joe Kowalewski says the partnership will provide members with access to barcode requirement advice and to services that can assist with reducing errors, rejections and reprints.

“Printing companies called on to create, design or print barcodes may not always be given the correct specifications by their clients or have a full understanding themselves of what is required to create or authentic and quality barcodes,” he says.

“Research has shown that some 22 per cent of items tested do not meet specification. That can lead to costly reprints, time lost, and ultimately client dissatisfaction.”

GS1 services include access to its Barcode Express ordering system, barcode testing to ensure compliance, education and training on GS1 requirements, a check digit calculator, and industry and professional advice on supply chain management.

GS1 Australia is the Australian administrator for the internationally recognised GS1 System used by over a million companies in virtually every sector of the global economy.
