Going under the hammer at Beaver’s former headquarters in the Sydney suburb of Redfern is the bulk of the company’s finishing and wide format printing equipment.
Being auctioned off next Tuesday is an Epson Stylus Pro 10000 and 9880, a Polar Mohr guillotine, a Horizon FC-1011 trimmer, an SPF 1011 stitcher/folder, a Fujifilm LUXEL V9600 CTP, as well as a variety of other finishing, factory and office equipment.
A Komori press still technically owned by CPI was repossessed by CPI and installed at another printing company shortly after Beaver entered administration.
Comment has been sought from administrators PKF, who did not reply at the time of publication.
Meanwhile, former Beaver general manager David Francis (pictured) has told ProPrint that it’s still “full steam ahead” for his new digital printing business Good Crowd Printing.
Francis said that the company is now searching for a new home close to the Sydney CBD, with the Redfern site it is currently occupying – which was being leased by Beaver – set to be put up for sale by its owners.
“Our plan was always at some point to move out of these premises,” he said. “We don’t really need a whole block of land two stories high for a digital printing business.”
Francis said that things are “going quite well” for the company having picked up a few local design agencies as clients.
“Our claim to fame is that we do digital printing to ISO colour,” he said. “We calibrate our machines every day to ensure they print to ISO.”
Francis described the collapse of Beaver as “a pretty devastating time for the Beaver staff and for my father”. Robert Francis was the founder and managing director of Beaver.
“At the end of the day, you just have to move forward,” David Francis said.
Beaver Press entered administration on 8 April after claims from the company that it would merge with fellow Sydney printer Chippendale Printing. PKF told Beaver creditors at a meeting last month that there was no money left in the business.
Chippendale Printing entered administration on 19 April.
