As Greg Seeto, Big Colour Imaging director, says, the company stepped into the breach when the original printer went out of business. The job was already part way through completion and Big Colour won the contract because of its readiness to install the right equipment.

“We were only able to meet our client’s demands by installing the HP Designjet printer. Before he transferred the production of the job to us, the client needed to be assured that the quality and colour of additional materials would match those already produced. As the finished materials had been produced on an HP Designjet 5500, we immediately agreed to install the same model printer to meet the client’s needs,” says Seeto.

The job Seeto refers to was a national point of sale rollout for a major retail chain. “It was a very big project that had been in production for 12 months when it came to us. The customer wanted the output from us to be identical to maintain brand integrity. Also there was no opportunity to extend deadlines, which meant we didn’t have time to mess around with testing and the like,” says Seeto.

Features of the HP Designjet 5500 printer include closed-loop colour calibration along with HP’s Color Layering Technology for consistent quality across a range of materials. Seeto says the image quality of 1200x600dpi output is exceptional, “and it is surprisingly affordable too with a relatively low cost per print for the speed and quality the printer delivers.

“Whereas the installation of the printer was originally to facilitate one job, we have put it to good use since that job’s completion enabling us to accommodate requests from both existing and new customers. With our business generally growing at 25 per cent year-over-year, the HP Designjet 5500 printer is a welcome addition to our production capabilities.”
