Blue Star first in Australasia with new Heidelberg

Blue Star Web is the first Australasian printer to install the new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106-10 -P+LX-LEUV ten-colour with coating perfecting press.

Under parent company IVE, Blue Star Web is the heatset printing arm producing catalogues, brochures and magazines, the new Heidelberg will be used to print covers, expedite turnaround times and produce ‘highest quality work’.

Heidelberg says the XL106-10 is ‘purposefully designed to produce the widest range of products’ and boasts a maximum speed of 15,000 sheets per hour. The offset manufacturer also says the machine has the capacity to print on 0.03-0.8mm stock.

Blue Star WEB general manager Darryl Meyer says, “The Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106-10 offers single pass productivity which not only enables our production team to produce high quality and high speed work, but also gives us the flexibility to handle both high output and small production batches.”

Heidelberg Australia managing director Richard Timson says the installation gives Blue Star an unmatched technological advantage in the Australian market.

“Everybody claims they have the biggest and fastest machine in Australia and the latest acquisition made by Blue Star Web is just that,” says Timson.

“We conducted tests in the Heidelberg showroom to establish the right consumable to achieve the perfect start up, by the end of January [they] were already into double shift production.”

The press is fitted with the Heidelberg Inpress spectrophometric colour measuring system and press register, combined with autoplate pro-plate mounting.

Blue Star Group CEO Matt Aitken adds, “We are delighted with the Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106-10 and are excited about the opportunities it provides for our customers. Blue Star Web has a strong future and Blue Star is committed to investing in that future, just as we are across all of our operations.”

The 26 metre, 93 tonne printer is said to have taken 28 full days to install in Blue Star Web’s temperature controlled room, which was built especially to house it.
