Bob McMillan awarded OAM

McMillan told Australian Printer, “I am delighted, it is such an honour, and quite unexpected. I think it is recognition of the commitment to charity I and my company made over many years, and our role in changing the print industry through print management business.”

McMillan began his print career 47 years ago by joining what was a modest  family company established by his father James, and going on to develop it into one of the country’s biggest print businesses, before selling it to Blue Star three years ago.

He was a pioneer of the print management model, recognising that clients would value one point of contact for all their print needs, rather than dealing with multiple suppliers. McMillan says, “Even smaller printers are now taking on the print management concept, and it has proved itself to be the viable business model. Print management, including mailing and distribution, outsourcing and the like is the way forward.”

His company was providing charitable work for various agencies over many years, and for the last ten years he has been a director of the Sydney Cancer Centre, associated with the late Dr Chris O’Brien, and which has raised the whopping sum of $200m for a new cancer centre at the Royal Prince Alfred hospital in Sydney, with building work having just commenced.
