Canon fires at PrintEx03

Singling out Fuji Xerox as the focus of its competitive thrust, Canon Australia national product manager for production and graphic arts Steven Brown, announced that the iR 105, iR 8500 and iR 7200 black and white digital presses now feature increased production speeds. In particular the iR 105 boasts an increase from 500,000 to 800,000 impressions per year.

“We are really planning to go up against the DocuTech and the Digimaster speed-wise, as well as put in a front end that will give the machines some redundancy,” says Brown.

“We also offer the ability to cluster devices. If a DocuTech goes down, production shuts down. Clustering of devices with an EFI front end eliminates that problem with Canon, and also allows a business to grow by adding machines into the cluster.”

The P-660C business card printer released earlier this year also made its first appearance, along with both the office and production versions of the iR 3200 digital colour printer, which has garnered much success in Japan, the only country to launch the device before the official Australian launch.

Another new release that received much attention was the Canon W8200 44-inch inkjet printer, which was being used to print various high-quality banners. The W8200 is the big brother of the W2200, which was also on display, and offers printing at resolutions up to 1200x1200dpi at a maximum speed of 30 square metres per hour on substrates up to 0.5mm thick. The machine, available later this year, comes in pigment and dye variations.
