Canon pulls out the golden shovel to start work on its new Sydney HQ

Canon has used a golden shovel to break ground as construction begins on its Oceania headquarters in Sydney.

The five-story Macquarie Park site is scheduled for completion by mid-2014.

"The new building will be state-of-the-art and purpose built for Canon’s current and future needs, enabling Canon to grow and showcase new technology while meeting sustainable targets and housing all staff under one roof," said the company.

"With Canon celebrating its 40th year in Australia this year, the relocation confirms Canon’s ongoing commitment to the Australian market and local research and development."

Canon Oceania managing director Taz Nakamasu and Canon Information Systems Research Australia managing director Hayao Ozu were present for the ground-breaking ceremony. They were joined by representatives from Taylor Construction and developer Goodman.

Canon is currently based at North Ryde.
